Operations Department Overview

The Operations department brings together BNY Mellon's key operational areas into one global team to better support the company's businesses and serve clients around the world.

We help clients conduct business, service assets, and engage in transactions in countries and more than markets. At every stage of the investments lifecycle - creating, trading, clearing, settling, holding, servicing, managing, distributing, and restructuring assets - Operations are working to make BNY Mellon the recognized industry service quality and productivity leader.

Our solutions include Securities Operations, Fund Administration, Transfer Agency, Outsourcing, Performance Measurement, and other related services.

Alternative Investment Services (AIS) Fund Accounting Department

The AIS Fund Accounting Department is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of daily net asset value (NAV) for a number of complex Hedge Funds, Credit Funds, Private Market Funds, Real Estate Funds, and Hybrid Funds investing in a wide variety of financial instrument types.

This area of business focuses on preparing and calculating accurate Net Asset Values (NAVs) across all funds in accordance with BNY Mellon standard operating procedures, preparing cash and asset reconciliations, providing services to all clients, and ensuring that client concerns/requests are addressed as soon as possible and within an agreed timetable.

Your Role: Vice President II

Vice President II is responsible for managing a staff comprised of Lead Analysts/Account Managers, Senior Analysts, and Fund Accounting Analysts whose responsibilities include providing premier client service and contributing to the production of client portfolio valuations, statements, and Net Asset Value (NAV) calculations.

  1. Provides oversight for multiple small teams or one large team of Accountants responsible for conducting accounting services on behalf of assigned clients, including determining net asset values, calculating fund performance, allocating expenses, and preparing reports.
  2. Manages the performance of teams and sets area priorities.
  3. Manages multiple teams in determining the net asset value (NAV) for assigned funds for each measurement cycle.
  4. Manages relationships with assigned clients and resolves any escalated issues related to fund calculations and accounting.
  5. DIRECTS AND SETS PRIORITY FOR PROCESSES THAT CHECK FOR THE COMPLETENESS AND ACCURACY OF DISCLOSURE IN FINANCIAL STATEMENTS.
  6. Provides guidance to teams managed to ensure that accounting records are maintained in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  7. Resolves escalated issues from team members.
  8. Evaluates GAAP and/or IFRS rules to determine impact of new regulations on BNY Mellon fund accounting practices.
  9. Provides guidance to teams on implementation of new policies to follow regulations.
  10. DIRECTS THE DRAFTING OF FINANCIAL REPORTS FOR CLIENTS TO REVIEW FUND PERFORMANCE.
  11. Communicates reports and accounting intricacies to clients.
  12. Recruits, directs, motivates, and develops staff, maximizing their individual contribution, their professional growth, and their ability to function effectively with their colleagues as a team.
  13. LEADS WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH AUDITORS AND CLIENTS TO MAKE CHANGES TO FINANCIAL REPORTS AND ENSURE THEY ACCURATELY DEPICT FUND PERFORMANCE.
  14. Manages multiple small teams or one large team of Accountants.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  2. Min. 10 years of total work experience.
  3. Min. 5 years in management role preferred.
  4. Understanding of the ancillary products and services provided to the client base, including: pricing, corporate actions, and cash management.
  5. Understanding of the security types making up the portfolios and how they trade, equities, fixed income securities, mortgage-backed securities, derivatives.
  6. Understanding of the transaction flows and the impact of mistakes at each step on the other.
  7. Understanding of the forms, documentation, and other legal requirements to set up accounts.
  8. Understanding of the risks inherent in specific transactions.
  9. Understanding of the information flows through the various systems.
