Role Overview

In this challenging and rewarding role, you will be part of the GSK Onyx Research Data Platform organization, a major investment by GSK R&D and Digital & Tech. The team's mission is to supercharge our data capability to better understand patients and accelerate vaccine and medicine discovery.

Main Responsibilities
  • You will lead the development and operation of tools, services, workflows, and applications that deliver high value through solutions to key business problems.
  • As a senior member of the Compute Platform Engineering team, you will design, build, and operate hybrid on-prem/cloud compute platforms for both interactive and scalable batch processing.
  • You will establish processes and workflows to transition existing HPC users and teams to this platform.
  • Responsible for code-driven environment, application, and container/image builds as well as CI/CD driven application deployments.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Deep expertise in software engineering, algorithms, and cloud computing to develop, test, and operate robust services and tools at scale.
  • Proficiency in at least one common programming language (e.g., Python, C++, Scala, Java) and toolchains for documentation, testing, and operations/observability.
  • Experience with modern software development tools/ways of working (e.g., git/GitHub, DevOps tools, metrics/monitoring).
  • Strong cloud expertise (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) including infrastructure-as-code tools and scalable compute technologies (e.g., Google Batch and Vertex).
  • CI/CD implementations using git and a common CI/CD stack (e.g., Azure DevOps, CloudBuild, Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab).
  • Docker, Kubernetes, and CNCF ecosystem experience, including application deployment tools like Helm.
  • Familiarity with low-level application build tools (make, CMake) and automated build systems (spack or easybuild).
