Job Title: EU Tax Compliance Manager

The EU Tax Compliance Manager is a key member of the Shared Services Center (SSC) and Indirect Tax Team, responsible for ensuring the company's compliance with VAT regulations in Europe. This role involves collaborating with the SSC team in Poznan to ensure that all VAT compliance responsibilities are met, and that optimal VAT positions are maintained while managing processes and risks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with local VAT/Intrastat rules by managing the process of on-time filing and payment of VAT returns, EC sales listings, Intrastat, and other reports as required for legal entities in registered EU countries.
  • Manage data-driven tax audit requests in coordination with local tax teams and the VAT counsel.
  • Act as an interface between the shared services activities, local country tax teams, the Director Global Indirect Tax, and the VAT counsel team with indirect tax-related data requests.
  • Develop and implement process improvements in relation to the shared service center approach.
  • Ensure quality data by setting up a process of continuous monitoring (daily checks & controls).
  • Maintain and update the VAT compliance calendar (filing dates of VAT returns, statistical reports, VAT listings, VAT summary, VAT corrections to be made on private use, VAT payments).
  • Provide training, guidance, support, and solutions to other departments and internal staff members on VAT.
  • Liaise with internal and external audits and ensure corrective actions on findings are implemented, including the execution of the European key controls in the VAT compliance area and develop processes to manage risks.
  • Ensure, in collaboration with SSC leadership, that all VAT tax procedures and processes are fully documented and updated at regular intervals.
  • In collaboration with SSC resources, support Accounts payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit, and CSR's to ensure follow-up on potential issues and that identified incorrectly issued invoices are adjusted in a timely manner.
  • In collaboration with SSC resources, liaise with the tax technology team and IT department to ensure that the SAP VAT tables (exemption, license, MWST, AP table) are kept up to date.
  • Reviewer for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and other established financial internal controls.
  • In collaboration with SSC leadership, ensure LyondellBasell's VAT compliance software is up to date and compliance dashboards are produced to monitor KPIs.
  • Monitor legislative changes in cooperation with the VAT Counsel Team and Global Compliance & audit manager.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economy, Taxation, or similar. Master's preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in indirect taxes.
  • Big 4 and industry preferred.
  • In-depth indirect tax knowledge in at least one EU jurisdiction, multiple jurisdictions preferred.
  • Matrix reporting lines and collaboration with teams in a shared service environment.
  • Establish indirect tax compliance procedures and controls.
  • Deep familiarity with EU indirect tax compliance processes, monthly and annual VAT returns, EC sales listing, Intrastat, and other filings as required.
  • Interface between country organizations and shared services.
  • Provide training, guidance, support, and solutions to other departments and internal staff members on VAT.
  • Indirect tax audit support with internal and external auditors and the tax authorities.
  • Planning of indirect tax payable and receivables and support of AR and AP teams.
  • Implementation of legislative changes in the compliance process.

  • Excellent indirect tax technical skills in at least one jurisdiction, multiple jurisdictions preferred.

  • Technology: SAP Indirect tax software (Thomson Reuters preferred).
  • Language: English (fluent) is a must-have, Polish and/or another EU language is a plus.
