We are focused on Net-Zero in our 2050 strategy, driving R&D to deliver technologies supporting a Carbon-Neutral Future. The backbone for grid transformation is Power Electronics, where we develop efficient solutions for integrating renewables, energy storage, improving power quality, and enabling green transportation & eMobility solutions.
You will join our small, cross-functional team of skilled engineers working on a new modular converter platform based on wide bandgap semiconductors (e.g., SiC) for various grid and DC applications. Your role involves designing innovative mechanical solutions to increase efficiency, size, and operational performance. If you're ready for this challenge, please consider joining us.
As part of our global R&D teams, you will report to Wojtysiak Technology Manager GI T&SD Krakow, supported by Adam Ruszczyk Senior Principal R&D Engineer. You'll have direct access to Corporate Executive Engineer – Power Electronics & Digital for technical support. Our creative environment encourages you to utilize your knowledge and skills to identify and implement innovative solutions for our product platforms.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the design process of our future HVDC converter cells and other power electronic sub-systems, taking a leading role in idea generation through concept design, prototyping, and verification.
- Participate in new product development projects focusing on valve mechanical design tasks involving multi-disciplinary areas such as heat transfer, electrical insulation, strength of materials, and manufacturing technologies.
- Perform mechanical design for converter valve components, including design calculations, preparation of design specifications, and technical documents.
- Develop 3D CAD Models, drawings, and BOMs.
- Collaborate in product verification tests from early prototype testing to final verification of converter valve designs.
- Contribute to solving technical challenges related to EMC/EMI, thermal management, and safety.
- This role requires a product lifecycle perspective in design work, considering aspects like reliability, safety, maintainability, tooling, and manufacturing requirements.
Your Background:
- You're curious about sustainability and the ongoing energy transition, eager to work on key technologies addressing one of humanity's biggest challenges today.
- You're a natural team player, enjoy collaborating with others, and possess strong communication skills.
- A Master's or PhD degree in mechanical engineering with 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and new product development is required. You should have a deep understanding of mechanical core competences, material selection, manufacturing methods, GD&T, and electrical technology.
- Familiarity with heat transfer, electrical insulation, strength of materials, fatigue of components, and manufacturing technologies is necessary.
- Electromechanical design experience from the electric power industry or high-voltage product design is beneficial.
- Strong proficiency in 3D-CAD modeling, preferably in NX, is essential.
- Basic understanding of FEM and Ansys, as well as working knowledge of Team Center PLM system and SAP, is desired. You bring a high level of self-motivation, curiosity, and desire to learn about new technologies.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required due to the global nature of our business.
