About Power Electronics in Hitachi Energy

Hitachi Energy's Power Electronics team has a rich history, spanning over 100 years. From the development of Mercury-Arc Valves to pioneering power semiconductor manufacturing, we have consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation.

Our commitment to Net-Zero is unwavering, and our research focuses on delivering technologies that support achieving a Carbon-Neutral Future. The backbone for grid transformation lies in Power Electronics, where we develop efficient solutions for integrating renewables, providing energy storage, improving power quality, and enabling green transportation & eMobility solutions.

As part of this team, you will work with a cross-functional group of skilled engineers to develop a new breakthrough modular converter platform based on wide bandgap semiconductors (e.g., SiC). You will be expected to push technology boundaries in terms of efficiency, size, and operational performance.

Reporting to Miroslaw Zurowski, R&D Manager, you will collaborate with global R&D teams. In case of technical questions, you will receive direct support from Simon Round, Corporate Executive Engineer – Power Electronics & Digital. A creative environment allows you to utilize your knowledge and skills in technology and product development to identify and implement innovative solutions.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and select power converter components (semiconductors, passive, protection, digital, analog, and EMI components, connectors, etc.) to optimize cost, reliability, and performance.
  • Document the SOA, lifetime, and component stress analysis.
  • Produce all Bills of Materials.
  • Work closely with reliability engineers to ensure selected components meet reliability and lifetime requirements under expected mission profiles.
  • Evaluate alternative suppliers for electronic components: assess the quality and reliability of their parts.
  • Create databases to evaluate suppliers and parts.
  • Ensure that components meet quality standards: perform tests, inspections, and evaluations to verify compliance.
  • Manage the lifecycle of components, from initial selection to end-of-life considerations.

Your Background

  • A degree in electrical/electronic engineering. A focus in power electronics engineering is advantageous.
  • Understanding of Component Parameters: knowledge of component properties, specifications, and performance characteristics.
  • Work experience as an electronics engineer or in a similar engineering role.
  • Exposure to component engineering tasks, such as component selection, sourcing, and lifecycle management.
