Software Engineer II, Network Verification

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
• 1 year of experience with data structures and algorithms.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience with cloud networking, networking and routing protocols
• Experience with networking fundamentals (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, DNS, firewalls, etc.) and cloud networking concepts (e.g., VPCs, subnets, load balancers, etc.).

Our team engineers the logic behind how Google Cloud users understand and debug their networks. We're building a core reachability platform in C++ that powers essential tools for anyone running workloads on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

In this role, you will be writing high-performance code that directly impacts customer-facing tools used to troubleshoot and analyze cloud network setups. You will work on the core features of this tool, simulating packet journeys through a user's entire configured GCP environment. You will help us by making this tool smarter, spotting misconfigurations, security vulnerabilities, and performance bottlenecks in VPCs. You will build the systems that can show a user the path their traffic will take, cutting through layers of routing tables and policies to provide clarity.

Responsibilities

• Write product or system development code. Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
• Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, support team and other engineers to spec out and build new features for connectivity tests, network analyzer, and effective routes. Solving tough problems in network modeling, configuration analysis, and distributed systems at Google scale.
