Paralegal

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The core function of the Paralegal is to provide full assistance to the lawyers in the Legal Department globally. The specific tasks that fall within the Paralegal role include (but are not limited to):

• Managing procedures for approval of account closures on application by estates.
• Creating and maintaining management information, including financial and project tracking documents.
• Creating and negotiating non-disclosure agreements, variation margin agreements, EMIR delegated reporting agreements, introducing broker agreements, powers of attorney, termination notices, and other documentation as required.
• Drafting and negotiating legal agreements under the supervision of a lawyer based in one of the other offices of CMC.
• Assisting with the instruction of external counsel and suppliers of support services.
• Managing relationships with suppliers of legal technology.
• Carrying out legal research.
• Supporting account opening/onboarding processes.
• Creating management information and other reports as directed.
• Supporting regulatory and business process change projects.
• Updating policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current laws.
• Assisting with the review of corporate accounts and marketing communications.
• Undertaking such other duties and training as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role.

Supporting the Legal Team

• Contributing to the provision of a high-quality legal service to CMC.
• Arranging for documents to be signed and ensuring that the legal sign-off process is followed.

Supporting Other Departments

• Maintaining personal/professional development to meet the changing demands of the role, including all relevant regulatory and legislative training
• When dealing with all customers, clients or colleagues, ensuring that we provide a clear, fair and consistent high-quality service that presents a professional and positive image of CMC Markets.
• Taking all reasonable steps to ensure appropriate confidentiality.
• Undertaking such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential

• Previous legal experience within private practice or in-house preferred.
• Legal education preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate in a concise manner.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Ability to analyse legal documents for accuracy.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work well autonomously and as part of the team.
• Positive and pro-active approach to all tasks.
• Ability to speak and write English with business level fluency.

Desirable

• Experience of working in the financial services sector.
• Additional foreign language skills would be an advantage.
• Familiarity with iManage preferable but not required.
