About the Role

The Senior Transactions Monitoring (TM) Officer, part of the AML & Sanctions Department, supports client TM and sanctions compliance screening. Key responsibilities include advising TM Officers on complex cases, sharing expertise, and guiding junior staff on all aspects of TM and sanctions screening. This role requires a highly ethical, professional attitude and collaboration with internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Conduct end-to-end Transaction Monitoring (TM) for withdrawals, deposits, securities, and trading, adhering to regulatory and internal standards.
• Investigate suspicious activity using internal systems, external databases, and open-source tools.
• Analyze and validate clients' SOF/SOW documentation.
• Prepare concise investigation summaries and case files with complete audit trails.
• Recommend follow-up actions (enhanced monitoring, restrictions, termination, or SAR/STR filing).
• Manage sanctions screening alerts, review complex matches, and guide junior officers.
• Evaluate non-standard cases, including complex structures and cross-border payments.
• Escalate significant sanctions or AML concerns to the MLRO/CO with documented risk assessments.
• Interpret and communicate regulatory changes (e.g., FATF, OFAC, EU/UK sanctions, MiFID II/MAR) to the TM team.
• Prepare periodic reports on TM metrics, case volumes, and risks.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of TM and sanctions documentation for audit and regulatory standards.
• Support internal/external audits and regulatory inspections.
• Identify process weaknesses and propose enhancements to TM and sanctions workflows, policies, and procedures.
• Lead/ participate in projects for automation, system optimization, or new tool implementation.
• Coach, train, and provide technical support to junior TM Officers, Review their work.
• Act as a key escalation point for complex cases, ensuring timely decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Law, Economics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 35 years in AML/CTF, TM, or financial crime investigations, ideally within a brokerage, investment firm, trading platform, or regulated fintech.
• Proven experience handling complex client investigations, SoF/SoW reviews, and escalations.
• Solid knowledge of AML/CTF regulations, sanctions (EU/UK, OFAC, UN), and FATF recommendations.
• Hands-on experience with TM/sanctions screening systems (e.g., NexisLexis, WorldCheck, ComplyAdvantage).
• Ability to interpret complex client structures, cross-border flows, and high-risk profiles.
• Preferred: Strong understanding of brokerage/trading AML risks, including market abuse indicators and securities trading patterns.
• Advantage:
• Familiarity with MiFID II, MAR, or market conduct rules.
• Relevant professional certifications (ACAMS, ICA, CGSS, or equivalent).
