This product harnesses data from over 500 million Zendesk users and integrates with 40+ external data sources. Explore plays a crucial role in processing millions of records from the Zendesk product family in order to facilitate quick querying and visualization on a large scale.

As we strive for excellence, we are seeking a dedicated Senior Software Engineer to contribute to the advancement of Zendesk products in terms of features, dependability, and scalability. In this role, you will join a dynamic team focused on enhancing our Explore analytics data engine and data repositories. Explore serves as a complex reporting platform offering valuable insights into Zendesk data. We are looking for someone with the expertise, experience, sagacity, patience, and resolve to collaborate with the team in upholding and enhancing the product to meet the evolving needs of our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage data pipeline architecture along with high-performance data stores.
  • Identify, devise, and implement internal process enhancements such as automating manual tasks, optimizing data delivery, and redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Establish the necessary infrastructure for efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading from diverse data sources using AWS 'big data' technologies.
  • Develop analytics tools that leverage the data pipeline to offer actionable insights on customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other crucial business performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders including Engineering, Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams to address data-related technical issues and cater to their data infrastructure requirements.
  • Collaborate with data and analytics experts to enhance the functionality of our data systems.

Requirements:

  • Up to five years of hands-on experience in data pipeline or big data environments, complemented by extensive knowledge of data storage methodologies and technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building large, highly scalable, distributed systems capable of handling substantial traffic.
  • Proven track record in conducting root cause analysis on both internal and external data and processes to address specific business queries and pinpoint areas for enhancement.
  • Familiarity with processes that support data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency management, and workload optimization.
  • Proficiency in message queuing, stream processing, and scalable 'big data' data storage solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with big data tools such as Flink, Kafka, Spark, etc.
  • Familiarity with analytics datastores like Redis and ClickHouse (OLAP systems).
  • Experience with cloud services such as AWS and Kubernetes.
  • Background in stream-processing systems.
  • Knowledge of the Scala programming language.
