We are looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will be a part of Bayer's Pharma Data & AI Team. You will take end-to-end ownership of the Snowflake platform at the heart of our Pharma commercial data ecosystem, leading its configuration, optimization, governance, cost management, and user enablement. You will ensure that the Snowflake environment is robust, efficient, and ready for evolving business needs. While Snowflake expertise is essential, you will also be expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to alternative cloud data management platforms such as Databricks as business needs evolve. Working in a team of infrastructure specialists and engineers, a senior infrastructure engineer builds, administers, supports, and maintains solutions as directed and according to architectural guidelines. Individuals in this role will:Ensure services are integrated, delivered, and operated as requiredWork with and support third parties in providing infrastructure servicesWork with software and data engineers to translate technical designs into operationsProvide input into overall management – workforce, budget, technology roadmaps, projects, and tasksLead and direct infrastructure specialist teams in building, managing, supporting, and maintaining solutions according to architectural guidelines YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the overall administration, configuration, and optimization of the Snowflake platform, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.Develop and enforce Snowflake platform standards, best practices, and governance models for user management, data access, and resource utilization.Oversee cost management and optimization strategies for Snowflake, including monitoring usage, setting up resource monitors, and implementing chargeback models.Drive user enablement and adoption by delivering training, documentation, and technical support for platform users across the organization.Evaluate and roll out new Snowflake features, releases, and integrations to maximize platform capabilities and value.Manage platform-level security, compliance, and audit processes in line with Bayer-internal and Pharma industry requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).Collaborate closely with DevOps, data engineering, analytics, and business teams to understand platform needs and anticipate future requirements.Lead the integration of Snowflake with other cloud data management solutions (e.g., Databricks), ensuring interoperability and flexibility in the broader data fabric.Monitor platform health, performance, and usage trends, proactively identifying and resolving issues to ensure smooth operations.Take initiative to evaluate emerging technologies and propose enhancements to keep the platform future-ready.Identify and pursue opportunities for self-improvement of technical and non-technical skillsTake the initiative to do what needs to be done without being asked WHO YOU ARE: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field5+ years of experience in cloud data platform engineering, administration, or architecture roles.Expert knowledge in Snowflake platform administration, configuration, security, and cost optimization; Snowflake certification strongly preferred.Proven experience with integrating Snowflake into broader enterprise ecosystems (e.g., Databricks, AWS, Azure, data catalogs, identity providers) and associated services (e.g., S3, IAM); open-source formats of highly relevance.Hands-on experience designing and implementing platform-level security controls, including RBAC, data encryption, network policies, and compliance.Optional experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Snowflake provisioning and configuration, using tools such as Terraform.Experience with cloud monitoring, alerting, and reporting tools (e.g., Snowflake Resource Monitors).Experience in automating processes and tasks like deploying resources and onboarding of users.Ability to develop and deliver user enablement programs, including training, documentation, and hands-on workshops for platform users and stakeholders.Basic familiarity with alternative cloud data management solutions (e.g. Databricks), with ability to evaluate and support as needed.Basic knowledge of data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance in the Pharma industry.Good programming skills (SQL, Python) for platform management and operational tasks.Good communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.Good analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to platform improvement and futureproofing.Good inter-cultural understanding and experience working in global, cross-functional teams.
