Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced SQL Database Architect & Administrator to review our existing SQL infrastructure and lead its redesign, implementation, and long-term support strategy. This role will focus on building a scalable, secure, and high-performing SQL-based data platform in Azure to enable advanced reporting, analytics, and AI-driven insights across the business.


Key Responsibilities

Database Architecture & Design

  • Design and implement scalable SQL database solutions optimised for reporting and analytics.

  • Develop data models and schemas, ensuring best practices in normalisation, indexing, and partitioning.

  • Translate business reporting needs into technical specifications.


Database Administration

  • Manage and maintain SQL Server environments, including backups, recovery, and security.

  • Monitor and optimise database performance, queries, and server configurations.

  • Ensure data integrity, compliance, and cost efficiency.


Reporting Enablement

  • Build data pipelines and reporting layers to support BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, SSRS).

  • Develop stored procedures, views, and materialised tables to enhance reporting performance.

  • Collaborate with BI teams to ensure seamless data access and availability.


Documentation & Governance

  • Maintain documentation of database architecture, data flows, and reporting logic.

  • Define and enforce data governance policies.

  • Provide guidance and training on best practices for data access and reporting.


Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in SQL Server architecture and administration.

  • Strong knowledge of relational database design, T-SQL, stored procedures, and performance tuning.

  • Hands-on experience with BI/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, SSRS).

  • Familiarity with ETL processes and data integration.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure SQL or other cloud-based database platforms.

  • Knowledge of data warehousing and dimensional modelling.

  • Exposure to API-based data ingestion and scripting.

  • Microsoft SQL Server or Data Architecture certifications.
