Category Manager

This position serves as a subject matter expert for the designated category, overseeing all sourcing strategies and implementation. The successful candidate will develop alternative sources, including low-cost countries, and leverage global category spend to achieve cost efficiencies, product quality, innovation, and effective supply chain models.
The individual will take direction from the Supply Chain Manager and/or Sr. Supply Chain Manager and work to improve total cost, quality, delivery, and reliability to reach organizational goals. Strong relationship skills are required to manage internal and external suppliers, providing timely and innovative solutions to meet business needs.
Responsibilities:- Primary relationship owner for suppliers within assigned category
- Responsible for managing the segmentation of assigned spend into subcommodity groups to create levers for operational excellence
- Develops and maintains an overall category strategy to meet organizational goals by improving Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) while securing supply continuity through identifying and mitigating current and potential risks and opportunities in the commodity playbook
- Leads the execution of the category strategy through preferred supplier lists, "right-sizing" non-preferred suppliers, and rewarding preferred partners with business awards tied to Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) with year-over-year improvements in cost, delivery, quality, service, and profitability
- Reviews analysis from PowerBI and other tools to create insights into the drivers of assigned commodities and implications to spend and cost projections to use as levers with the current and future supply base
- Conducts regular business reviews (SRMs) with key and strategic suppliers, involving cross-functional teams and senior leadership
- Creates presentations for supplier relationship management reviews, commodity playbooks, risk mitigation proposals, 4-Blockers, and supplier/commodity gap analyses
- Responsible for creating and executing a plan to deliver annual business results against metrics such as payment terms, on-time delivery, productivity, inflation, and other metrics determined by Procurement Leadership
- Researches, tracks, and communicates industry trends, best practices, applicable indices, and competitive offerings to identify opportunities for innovation, competitive advantage, and increased overall productivity
- Develops a productive working relationship with peers on other teams: Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Procurement

- Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred)
- Minimum 10 years of procurement experience (preferably in industries with large, complex engineering, procurement, and construction projects, with a focus on procurement)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in negotiations, including RFI, RFP, RFQ, and contract development
- Strong Negotiating, Benchmarking, Market Analysis, Competitive Intelligence, and Procurement Projects Management skills
- Experience with vendor management, including purchase order issuance, execution, and administration
- Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, and draw conclusions from quantitative data
- Strong interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate and engage at all organizational levels, ability to cultivate and sustain high-quality professional relationships
- Ability to work individually or as part of a team environment
- Must be creative and have strong problem-solving skills, along with time-management, prioritizing, planning, and self-direction skills
- Ability to maintain long-term productive relationships with suppliers (SRMs)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Project
- ERP system or similar system experience in a global environment is beneficial (SAP & Ariba)
