Job Summary

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is seeking a dedicated Global Mission Volunteer to join our team in Wroclaw, Poland. As a key member of our community outreach team, you will play a vital role in supporting the church and the Diakonia Center in their mission to serve the local community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist at schools, daycare centers, and a day center for seniors, providing support and care to those in need.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to small groups on traditions and holidays, promoting cultural understanding and exchange.
  • Coordinate online meetings connecting young people from Poland with Lutheran congregations from around the world, fostering global connections and partnerships.
  • Teach English classes to children, students, and seniors, promoting language skills and cultural exchange.
  • Support children, students, and seniors during tours of the city, providing a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Organize joint work with local organizations and city authorities, promoting community development and social impact.
  • Assist in the organization of charity collections, such as the "Social Fridge", promoting social responsibility and community engagement.
  • Lead discussions and meetings on important topics identified by each group, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Assist as needed in administrative offices, providing support and administrative assistance.
  • Assist in organizing Sunday school and catechesis classes, as well as youth meetings from the Lutheran Church, promoting spiritual growth and development.
  • Coordinate meetings for Parish members, including seniors, promoting community engagement and social connection.
  • Support the Parish Kindergarten "Happy Notes", providing care and support to young children.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred.
  • Previous work experience with children, young people, and/or disadvantaged peoples.
  • Willingness to study Polish.
  • A commitment to the mission of the church.
  • Openness to various expressions of Christian faith and respect for people of other faiths, beliefs, values, and customs of church and culture.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills demonstrating understanding and compassion.
  • Demonstrate ability to carry out responsibilities with the ability to adapt to different standards and practices.
  • Ability to work within the framework of a local administration.
  • Adaptable and flexible, sense of humor, good physical and emotional health.
  • Live and serve in a way which reflects the vision and expectations of the ELCA.

Terms and Conditions

  • A variety of housing options are available at the cost of the volunteer.
  • Emergency health insurance is provided by the ELCA.

Physical Effort

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. This position requires sitting for long periods of time. Employee will occasionally need to lift boxes or materials up to 15 pounds. Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Psychological evaluation is required.
