Job Summary:

We seek an exceptional Senior Staff Engineer- Software Networks with expertise in designing and developing software for our cloud services, focusing on resilience, automation, and high-reliability. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, coach junior team members, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop software networking features for Equinix Metal, a bare-metal cloud at scale, ensuring seamless interconnection across the Equinix ecosystem.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to introduce and enhance product capabilities for customers, driving simplicity, reliability, ease of maintenance, and operation.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and coaching to less experienced team members to evolve our software networking features.
  • Actively participate in continuous process and system improvements that support our software development lifecycle, aligning with company values and culture.
  • Communicate clearly and thoroughly in a remote-first environment, documenting technical decisions and collaborating with the team.
  • Take on-call responsibilities for the services the team is accountable for.

Requirements:

  • Expertise in developing software for L2-L3 networking technologies at datacenter scale or cloud scale, with a focus on resilience, automation, and high-reliability.
  • Experience with building network software at scale, utilizing knowledge of VPCs, Software Defined Networking, Load Balancers, DNS, Security Policies, IP Address Management, or similar technologies.
  • Proficiency in modern coding languages like Ruby/Ruby on Rails or Go, along with experience in creating fast feedback loops using CI/CD and testing automation.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and container services, as well as Agile software development practices including Scrum, JIRA, Peer Review, Git, and CI/CD.
  • Deep analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and execute with a sense of urgency, delivering services to meet customer demands in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work in an open-source environment, sharing code openly with others and being open to scrutiny.
