Data Governance Manager

What this role is about?

The Data Governance Manager plays a vital role in leading and managing organization-wide data governance activities aligned with the Data Strategy journey. This position focuses on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance and data quality framework for data policies, standards, and practices across departments and Business and Functional areas. The main goal is to achieve the required level of consistency, quality, and protection to meet overall business strategy needs. The Data Governance Manager acts as the global point of contact for governance, data quality, and protection issues, collaborating closely with Business and GBS stakeholders to enhance the quality and value of core data assets, enabling the transition to a data-driven company.

What will you do?

  • Data Governance Strategy and Framework:
    • Establish and govern an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap including strategic priorities for the development of a data-driven organization
    • Roll out an enterprise-wide data governance framework, focusing on improving data quality and providing data business services through modifications to organization behavior policies and standards, governance metrics, processes, tools, and data architecture
    • Lead data governance committees involving resources from Business and Functional areas, IT business, and operations functions to achieve objectives and resolve escalated issues
  • Governance Standards, Policies and Procedures:
    • Develop standards, policies, and procedures to support the creation and implementation of data governance policies within the business
    • Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, data governance playbooks, and data-centric culture adoption across the enterprise
    • Define performance indicators, quality metrics, and ensure compliance with data-related policies and standards
    • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the company's key data assets
  • Market Knowledge:
    • Stay informed of data governance best practices and research suppliers and markets to identify new business opportunities using data assets strategically
    • Facilitate evaluation of Data Governance solutions from technical and functional perspectives for data governance initiatives and enterprise projects
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with leadership to identify business needs and implement Data Governance and Data Stewardship capabilities
    • Engage a network of business/IT stakeholders and manage relations between them and the central Data & Analytics team
    • Serve as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure data-related business requirements are well understood and considered in operational prioritization and planning
    • Work on delivering Data Governance communication plans to establish a cultural change in how data governance is perceived and managed within the company
  • Training and Support:
    • Work with Business teams and other Data & Analytics teams to ensure key business users are educated and trained on data governance practices within JTI to meet business requirements

What are we looking for?

  • University degree or equivalent in Computer Sciences, Information & Technology, or similar
  • 3/5+ years of experience embedding Data Governance processes and standards into strategic projects
  • 5+ years in a major services organization with change or transformation leadership experience
  • Experience with rolling out data governance frameworks and roadmaps, aligning data definitions, setting up data governance organizations, and implementing data quality controls
  • Varied and detailed knowledge of Data Management areas such as data quality, data migration, metadata management, etc.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, credibility, knowledgeability, and positivity
  • Demonstrated consulting skills with change management concepts and strategies
  • Ability to challenge requirements and current state to increase overall value to the firm
  • Flexibility, strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of DMBOK; CDPM certification is a plus
  • Experience analyzing and applying regulatory policy analysis to business operations preferred
  • Fluency in English
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Azure Purview and Data Catalog is a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Data Quality and Common Data Model is a plus
  • Knowledge of SAP Information Steward and SAP data services knowledge is a plus
