Mission Statement
The purpose of Operational Risk Management (ORM) is to oversee operational risk effectively, focusing on identification, measurement, monitoring, and control within set limits. ORM aims to be a robust Second Line of Defense (2LOD) that drives actions to ensure Citi remains within the agreed risk boundaries consistently, making Citi a secure place for our clients. ORM accomplishes this by:
- Having a well-staffed and skilled ORM team that collaborates closely with stakeholders across the First, Second, and Third Lines of Defense.
- Implementing simple and efficient oversight and operational routines integrated into daily risk management across First and Second Lines of Defense.
- Leveraging technology and data effectively to evaluate operational risk and compliance with the framework.
- Collaborating with the First Line of Defense through consultation, challenge, and training to cultivate proactive Risk Managers capable of adapting their skills to various operational risk categories.

The role of Global Operational Risk Officer - Lessons Learned Framework (SVP) is part of the ORM Standards group, which aims to enhance Operational Risk Management practices at Citi and provide clarity to stakeholders.
The role involves enhancing, transforming, and maintaining ORM's Lessons Learned framework to ensure a more robust control environment by promptly identifying, analyzing root causes, and reporting significant risk events.
The role requires engaging with stakeholders in businesses, functions, other control teams, and across global ORM.
Lessons Learned Framework Design
- Lead the design and upkeep of the Lessons Learned framework, emphasizing integration with other ORM frameworks and standards, along with ORMF.
- Oversee the development of training and offer expertise to 1LOD and 2LOD regarding their roles and duties.
- Collaborate and coordinate with experts from other second line of defense functions to effectively challenge 1LOD in implementing the Lessons Learned policy requirements.
Lessons Learned Program Execution Oversight
- Engage in Governance Forums (Lessons Learned working group, IMRC) to supervise and encourage efficient operational risk management practices.
- Lead the execution of periodic or targeted independent reviews of the LL Program design and management to evaluate adherence to related Policies, Standards, and Procedures.
- Identify areas for enhancement in the LL Framework methodology and management.
- Promote actions to tackle root causes of identified Issues and verify their resolution.
General
- Ensure project completion, handle special assignments, and other ad hoc tasks as needed.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for senior stakeholders and team members.
- Leverage deep disciplinary knowledge to contribute to new techniques and streamline processes and workflows for the function.
- Communicate with Regulators regarding LL Framework matters.
- Present LL program outcomes to Governance Committees and Senior Management.
- Identify emerging risks and opportunities that align with stated objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree is a plus.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in Operational Risk Management, Audit, Compliance, or other control functions.
- Strong negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder management skills across diverse stakeholders at various levels.
- Ability to collaborate effectively, build partnerships, and work with others to achieve common goals.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team setting across diverse groups.
- Capacity to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Optimize work processes by balancing efficiency with a focus on continuous improvement.
