The College of Europe is seeking applications for the position of Student Welfare Officer (100% FTE) at its Bruges campus. Starting as soon as possible , the successful candidate will become a key member of the Student Affairs Team, guiding and supporting every new cohort of students in all non-academic related matters throughout their time in Bruges
About the College of Europe in Bruges:
Hosting annually approx. 340 students from all over the continent and beyond, the Bruges campus of the College of Europe (established in 1949) offers a vibrant educational space under the motto of “studying and living Europe together” in its residential academic programmes. Centred around the mission of providing the best possible environment for all members of the College community, the international team of the campus’ administration is grouped into several Offices that support the operations of the institution.
The role:
As Student Welfare Officer, your tasks will include:
Ensuring the well-being of the students, both physically and psychologically; Acting as an accessible and confidential first line support for students, referring them to external care providers where needed; Further elaborating the holistic mental health framework offered to students, based on evolving needs or additional opportunities offered by the Flemish Convention on Primary Psychological Care; Supporting and counselling students in non-academic matters, be it emotional or practical in nature (e.g. in relation to the Belgian health care system); Implementing and coordinating the Bruges campus’ Code of Conduct, as well as developing related diversity and inclusion policies; Organising training opportunities for students and staff on topics such as consent, bystander intervention, unconscious bias, micro-aggressions, mental health support, etc.; Liaising with other services of the Campus’ administration, as well as external stakeholders (including the College’s external psychologist or the Bruges City Prevention Service); Advising and supporting the Director of Student Affairs Office and the Rectorate in all issues relating to student welfare or diversity and inclusion.Your profile:
We are looking for an officer, preferably with some familiarity with the College of Europe, and with:
A Bachelor or Master’s degree, preferably in the field of Social Sciences or Psychology; A demonstrable interest and expertise in topics related to mental health and well-being, as well as diversity and inclusion; Experience in supporting, advising and counselling students; A very good written and oral command of English and French – knowledge of Dutch is an asset: The ability to work independently, and as part of a team; Excellent organisational and communication skills; A high measure of empathy, patience and resilience; An openness to flexible working hours (which may occasionally include evenings or weekends).The College offers:
