Head of Data Science

Our client is a fast-growing, Series A–backed technology company delivering trusted, data-led benchmarks for global commodity markets. Each day, the business evaluates thousands of price points across the energy landscape, including oil, refined products, natural gas, and emerging energy transition sectors such as biofuels, hydrogen, and carbon markets.

With a growing international footprint and offices, the company continues to expand its global team and is now seeking a Head of Data Science to join its Krakow office.

This position sits at the convergence of commodity market expertise and advanced artificial intelligence. As Head of Data Science, you will define and lead the organisation's AI and analytics vision, transforming extensive trade and pricing data into innovative, high-impact data products.

Reporting directly to the Chief Technology & Data Officer, you will set the data science strategy, act as the senior technical authority across the global data function, and work closely with executive leadership to deliver AI-powered solutions—particularly those leveraging large language models (LLMs). The role offers substantial autonomy and influence, with regular international collaboration across the company's regional offices.

• Define and drive the company's data science and AI roadmap, ensuring measurable commercial impact
• Design, build, and productionise AI-driven customer solutions, including LLM-enabled applications
• Act as the senior data science expert across the organization, supporting and mentoring analysts globally
• Manage and develop the data analyst team based in Krakow
• Partner with C-level stakeholders to identify opportunities where AI can support business strategy
• Translate product and commercial requirements into scalable analytical solutions
• Collaborate closely with commodity pricing specialists to develop models that reflect market structure and domain complexity
• Travel internationally to strengthen collaboration across offices in Europe, North America, and Asia
• Champion the company's AI capabilities through internal communication and thought leadership

• Strong academic background in a quantitative or technical discipline
• Demonstrated experience leading data science or AI teams
• Advanced Python skills, with deep experience using libraries such as Pandas and NumPy, and modern LLM frameworks
• Proven delivery of data science solutions, including LLM-based systems, in B2B or internal environments
• Extensive experience working with time-series data
• Solid understanding of AI and LLM technologies, including their strengths, limitations, and real-world application
• Experience designing LLM workflows where prompt engineering is critical to accuracy and reliability
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior executives
• Creative and original approach to solving complex analytical problems
• High standards for data quality, accuracy, and presentation
• Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Strong collaborator with experience working across distributed, international teams

• Prior exposure to energy, commodities, or financial markets, particularly pricing or trading data
• Experience with AWS Bedrock and/or LangChain
• Familiarity with time-series forecasting techniques and tools (e.g. Statsmodels, Darts, TimeGPT or similar)
• Experience delivering AI solutions within regulated or financial market environments
• Polish language skills
