We're searching for a versatile Staff Software Engineer to join our team of Vikings in Krakow, Poland.

Our team is dedicated to enhancing our Help Center's theming platform, incorporating new features, and developing integrations. Through this platform, we empower our users to create unique experiences, from sharing knowledge to building communities and addressing inquiries. Our work directly impacts developers and users of a product that handles billions of requests monthly.

Responsibilities
  • Shape and enhance our theming platform to facilitate coding and non-coding customizations.
  • Engage in brainstorming, design, prototyping, and programming in an agile setting.
  • Tackle intricate reliability issues at scale, showcasing expertise across the entire technology stack.
  • Demonstrate a deep product understanding and foster a customer-centric approach within the team.
  • Lead, mentor, and educate colleagues at various career stages, sharing advanced insights and fostering a culture of continuous enhancement.
  • Effectively communicate complex changes, strategies, and technical decisions to stakeholders with clarity and consideration.
  • Guide the team in exploring architectural strategies through consensus-based decision-making and documentation.
RequirementsEssential
  • 6+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable web stack.
  • Strong engineering and architectural background with extensive knowledge in systems design.
  • Ability to lead projects independently while knowing when to seek assistance.
  • Capability to mentor and lead engineers, contributing to a collaborative work environment.
  • Proficiency in using observability tools to maintain system reliability at scale.
  • Open-minded and inclusive approach towards colleagues and tasks.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining high-traffic, high-availability environments.
  • Knowledge of container orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud services such as AWS.
  • Familiarity with modern JS frameworks.
  • Experience working on a themeable platform (e.g. WordPress, Shopify).
  • Contributor or owner of open-source projects.
Technology Stack
  • Our primary application code is written in Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
  • We utilize MySQL, Redis, Memcached, and S3 for data storage.
  • Communication between services is facilitated through Kafka, REST APIs, and GraphQL.
  • We deploy and scale applications using Kubernetes and AWS.

The annual base salary range for this role in Poland is zł268,000.00-zł402,000.00. The final compensation offered will depend on qualifications, relevant experience, and other factors. Additional benefits may also be included.

In this role, the hybrid experience involves team-level onsite collaboration, learning, and celebration, combined with remote work flexibility for part of the week. Some in-office presence is required. The specific schedule will be determined by the hiring manager.
