Offer Description

The position is open for a researcher specializing in the evolution of animals, with a particular focus on microscopic invertebrates. Full-time teaching load (210 hrs/academic year) involves classes in zoology, particularly focusing biodiversity and biogeography. Stimulating work environment in the Department of Invertebrate Evolution, where scientists targeting various animal groups (insects, mollusks, mites, tardigrades) collaborate and support each other.

Specific Requirements

  • holding a doctoral degree in the discipline of biological sciences (dissertation on invertebrate evolution)


• having proven experience in research work including: ability to collect microscopic fauna, knowledge of invertebrate anatomy and phylogeny, ability to prepare microscopic animals, digital microphotography and processing, experience with light and electron microscopy, experience in laboratory work allowing independent DNA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis


• knowledge of modern quantitative technique used in the statistical delimitation of species: morphometrics and molecular methods


• knowledge of contemporary techniques used in analytical biogeography


• having a positive opinion from the candidate's previous supervisor, including an assessment of the candidate's qualifications and suitability for academic teaching, collaborative research work and further scientific development


• having publications with lead authorship in renowned international journals indexed in JCR

Eligibility criteria

A person holding a PhD degree in evolution of animals, with the focus on taxonomy and phylogeny of a specific group. They should have a strong background in taxonomy of a given invertebrate group.

Selection process

The first stage of the selection procedure is the formal assessment of the submitted documents. Applications which meet all formal requirements are the subject of substantive assessment, during which an interview with the Candidate may be conducted (directly or via electronic communication channels), upon settling the date of the interview with the Candidate. The Candidate has the right to appeal against the negative assessment by the selection board within 7 days from receiving the information about the results of the assessment.

The selection procedure is conducted in accordance with The Policy of Open, Transparent and Merit-Based Recruitment Process at the Jagiellonian University.
