We are seeking a Head of Data Platformsfor Balyasny Asset Management (B.A.M.) who isa global institutional investment firm that is opening its first office in Poland, precisely in Warsaw.

As the leader of the Data Intelligence Group (DIG), you'll drive data engineering, collection, enrichment, and AI initiatives to equip portfolio managers, analysts, and quants with superior data capabilities.

Your role involves assembling and guiding a team of data engineers, analysts, and AI experts to develop cutting-edge tools and infrastructure that leverage AI, enhancing the entire data lifecycle from collection to enrichment. You'll oversee project development from concept to delivery and serve as the key contact for internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of our data strategy, focusing on the acquisition, management, and utilization of data to support investment strategies across various asset classes.
  • Build, mentor, and manage a team of data engineers and analysts, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of advanced data infrastructure, tools, and software that support efficient data operations and delivery.
  • Champion the use of AI and ML technologies to uncover investment insights and improve data analytics capabilities.
  • Act as the senior liaison with global data organization leaders, aligning the Warsaw office's data initiatives with the firm's overall strategy.
  • Ensure the adherence to best practices in data management, quality control, and security, maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Collaborate with the Tech organization and office leadership to cultivate a dynamic and inclusive office culture that attracts and retains top talent.
  • Develop and execute a long-term talent growth and retention strategy for the Warsaw data teams, identifying and nurturing key talent within the organization.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering and development with a strong understanding of financial data applications (alt data, company data, macro data)
  • 5+ years leading scaled data engineering teams and owning business outcomes end-to-end
  • Strong experience with data management principles and designing and developing data APIs, web services, ETL pipelines
  • Knowledge of financial data and familiarity with public market investing across the largest asset classes; you may have worked as in a senior capacity at a hedge fund or investment firm in the past
  • Experience directly interfacing with senior clients or stakeholders (e.g., portfolio managers)
  • Strong knowledge of cloud technologies and orchestration e.g. AWS's Glue, Redshift, SNS/SQS, S3, Lambdas, etc.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker and/or other alternative cloud orchestration technologies
  • Experience with various database technologies (SQL, MongoDB, Snowflake)
  • Degree from top university in Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant subject; advanced degree preferred
  • Fluent in Polish and English
