In the role of Python Team Leader (referred to as Python Chapter Lead within our organization), you will be a technically proficient expert in the field with the added duty of being a line manager. Your primary focus, in addition to coding, will involve supervising and directing a group of Python engineers at your location.

Lead our digital evolution
We are embarking on an exciting digital journey within Volvo Group Digital & IT. Digital Delivery, a new department under Volvo Group Digital & IT, aims to identify and implement new digital projects and modernize existing solutions across the various brands under the Volvo Group umbrella. Through a modern product-centric operational model and state-of-the-art technology architecture, we develop profitable, scalable, and distinctive digital products. Our cross-functional approach to product design and delivery enhances business performance and adds value to the entire Volvo Group.

Here, you will oversee a team of software engineers who are continuously learning and adapting to stay ahead of the curve.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading, nurturing, and recruiting a team of talented Python engineers, supporting their personal development and addressing challenges on assignmentsDevising and executing a competence strategy for Python engineers within your team, engaging with chapter members to promote excellence in areas like best practices, frameworks, and tools Managing capacity planning to ensure the short and long-term competence and capacity of the Python software engineersCollaborating with stakeholders across the Volvo Group to align with evolving business requirements Facilitating external input and sharing best practices within the communityPromoting agile work methodologiesEngaging in day-to-day operations within delivery or product teams and contributing to assignments Balancing your time between being a line manager and a team member

You will be part of the Software Engineering Leadership Team and will report to one of the Chapter Area Leads.

As a Team Leader, you should enjoy assembling and motivating high-performing teams, actively engaging in strategy development and implementation. You should set an example for other leaders and individual engineers as we shape the Python domain and community

You should have extensive experience as a practitioner (SW Engineer) and possess advanced technical knowledge in the Python domain. Demonstrated leadership skills to mentor people or several years of experience managing teams, preferably in the Python domain, are essential. Working with agile methodologies should be second nature to you.

Additional skills required:

Understanding of software design and architecture, familiarity with topics such as automated deployment processes (CI/CD) and Microservices Experience with APIs, user authentication/authorization, and integrations Proficiency in unit testing, TDD Familiarity with Cloud programming and Docker containers Relevant University degree or equivalentExcellent command of the English language
