The Category Manager is responsible for the development and execution of best-in-class sourcing strategies for the Resin category, providing leadership, critical thinking, and expertise on Resin categories to advance Baxter Global Business Units' mission agenda.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and maintain global market knowledge of assigned commodities, supplier technologies, and manufacturing processes.
  2. Act as a resource to operations teams using procurement knowledge.
  3. Define global subcategory segmentation and recommend consolidation strategies to leverage business volumes.
  4. Implement assigned commodity strategy based on regional markets, suppliers, and plants.
  5. Analyze competitive manufacturing costs and suggest strategies to decrease expenditure.
  6. Craft cost-saving opportunities through competitive bidding, supplier development, and continuous improvements.
  7. Improve and supervise suppliers' performance, establishing service levels, and ensuring timely resolution of disputes.
  8. Negotiate contracts, support supplier recovery plans, work with critical suppliers, lead sourcing projects, manage supplier relationships, and support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree; MBA desirable. CPM preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of proven experience in Procurement or related fields.
  • Strong decision-maker surrounding multi-million-dollar contracts and agreements and major policies.
  • Risk management skills required to drive innovative solutions and problem-solving analysis and resolution.
  • Seasoned negotiator with knowledge of cost tools such as material breakdown, benchmarking, value analysis, value engineering, complex RFQ's, and innovative purchasing tools.
  • Strong project management skills to drive projects to closure.
  • High-level technical proficiency. Engineering or other technical training preferred.
  • In-depth understanding in building category strategies and sophisticated pricing arrangements and supplier profitability.
  • Various types of raw material resin, colorants, and plastic knowledge are preferred.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis, problem-solving, continuous improvement, corrective and preventative action, product quality assurance systems, and supplier performance development and evaluation is helpful.
  • Proficient English is a must.
  • Travel of 20-30% including global travel may be required.
