About the Role

Brown Brothers Harriman is seeking a highly skilled Technical Manager Systems to join our Data Transformation Technology team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the design and delivery of critical applications, coaching and mentoring team members, and developing maintainable and well-documented application functionality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of critical applications meeting business requirements, at high quality and within given deadlines.
  • Coach and mentor team members, refining software development processes.
  • Develop maintainable, well-documented application functionality with an eye toward standardization, common components, simplicity, performance, robustness, and other attributes of enterprise-strength solutions.
  • Contribute technical expertise to defining application requirements in collaboration with business analysts, business representatives, and others.
  • Create proofs of concept or prototypes if required; contribute to technical design of applications; contribute to database/data model design.
  • Promote coding patterns, highlight anti-patterns, and enforce their implementation through code reviews.
  • Quickly resolve issues encountered by business lines in the production environment, maintaining a helpful, "high touch" approach to working with business users, performing root cause analysis, technology evaluation, and performance tuning.

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant software development experience.
  • Experience leading a team and guiding junior Java developers to deliver business value.
  • Willingness to take responsibility, commit, and be a driving force within the project.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing back-end systems with REST web services in Java 11+.
  • Good understanding of Java Design Patterns and OO Design for microservices.
  • Proficiency in RDBMS concepts, SQL, Spring Data, JPA.
  • Knowledge of Spring, Spring MVC, and Spring Boot, JUnit, Git, Maven.
  • Understanding of enterprise SDLC and application deployment procedures.
  • High proficiency in development practices: unit testing, Continuous Integration, refactoring, clean code.
  • Ability to adapt to Scrum/Agile methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in production environments.
Nice to Have
  • Working experience with Angular and web application tuning.
  • Familiarity with Quality Assurance methodologies and approaches.
  • Aptitude of development within a Linux environment.
  • Experience with containers and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of Hibernate, JMS, JTA, JUnit, Jenkins, Spock.
